Dear Sir,
I tried ATK version 2010.2
In the calculation of the  graphene nano-ribbon,  I wonder why we set the dielectric and metallic region in the configuration. On Page 25 of the manual, the author talk about the boundary conditions, but I am not clear the explaination.
And in ATK 2008.10, the two probe systerm configuration doesn't have the dielectric and metallic region.
So, my question is why we set these two region, and what is the physical meaning of these two region. Thank you.

They are used to simulate more realistic situation in a field effect transistor (FET).
