Title: cannot rotate structure in vnl 12.2.1?
Post by: esp on July 16, 2012, 06:30
it seems i can no longer rotate the configuration in VNL 12.2.1 ... is this a bug in vnl, or something to do with my computer?  i was able to rotate just fine previoussly with 11.8 ... i see the structure fine, i can zoom in and out, but click and drag and no rotation at all, only top view ... any ideas?

We changed the rotation button to right-mouse button in 12.2.
Is that it?

No, no need for an external mouse :)

In what tool is this not working?

You have to right click the 3D view and drag it to rotate the view.

You mean in the "Viewer" tool? Try viewing the structure in the Builder instead, it has better performance.

Not performance, none of the viewers work anymore for me ... i cannot rotate anywhere there is a view of a configuration ..

Odd. And you are using the RIGHT mouse button?

yes i have a laptop and am using the touchpad .. right button works fine as i use it all the time .. when i click down the right button, then move the mouse, nothing happens ... in fact the cursor freezes position when i click the right button ... if i simply click the right button and left up (do not hold down), there is a menu of options

Right, the right-click context menu should pop up for right mouse click-and-release, but it's infinitely strange that right-click drag mouse doesn't work... Never seen that before. May I suggest (both for troubleshooting and in general) that you hook up a real mouse to the laptop, working with the touchpad and using the 3D operations (like also pan and zoom) gets very tiresome after some time.

I figured it out .. it is the touchpad settings .. i have an HP laptop with the Synaptics driver for the touchpad ... it seems it will not allow normal scrolling type operation for the right mouse button .. i can change the driver setting to something like "scroll up" or down, etc ... but it will not perform the same action like the left mouse button .. since you changed the rotation to the right mouse button, it seems i can no longer rotate unless i use an external mouse ... :(

We needed the left mouse for selection, that's why it was changed. It's good to know there may be driver issues regarding this point, in case others have similar issues, although as mentioned we haven't heard from anyone else so far. Is this on Linux for you? Are you sure you have the latest drivers?

I'd be interested in troubleshooting it with you, but right now I'm traveling. Anyway, as mentioned before I can strongly recommend an external mouse no matter what. The right tools always makes work more efficient. That said, I can understand it's annoying that it doesn't work from the touchpad, so let's try to figure it out.

Btw, you indicated you use 12.2.1, the latest version is 12.2.2, some small bug fixes (not related to this).

Perhaps try this: http://forums.adobe.com/message/1313629 (2nd last message has an idea for a solution).

Drivers are a nightmare :( I just had a similar experience with a brand new laptop where the wireless would go out suddenly. The frustration and time you spend to solve these things... And yet we love our computers, with all their faults ;)

having worked on countless embedded systems with low level assembly drivers of sensors, displays, input devices, etc ...  i have to say I have no idea why windows (similar just more complex) make it so difficult for drivers to work .. i have never had a virus in 20 years of computing, but i have had many crashes due to drivers .. feel like building a computer myself
