A countour plot is failed in VNL 2009.06.2
« on: September 3, 2009, 09:15 »
Dear QuantumWise Staff,

I've found that there is probably a bug with displaying a contour plot in VNL 2009.06.2.
When I tried to view the effective potential of GNR 2probe with contour plot, I obtained one line like attached.
In addition, even one line is disappeared if any parameter for plot is altered.

My OS is OpenSUSE 11.1 for 64-bit.
Is this problem specific for OpenSuse?
Is there a way to avoid this problem with some tips in VNL 2009.06.2?

Thanks in advace.

This error also appears when running VNL 2009.06 in a Virtual Box (on Windows). It's related to the use of Mesa video drivers.

For the Virtual Box there seems to be no option but to use these drivers, but for a usual Linux machine you should try to download and install vendor-specific drivers, and hopefully that will not only resolve this issue but also make VNL work faster with 3D graphics.

Reg. Mesa drivers, this issue has been solved, and the next release will include the fix.

For OpenSuSE, however, there is a more immediate solution. By using the native Nvidia (or ATI) vendor drivers, rather than the Mesa (default) one, you should be able to see contour plots fine. This might, in some cases, require a kernel update, but hopefully this will be handled by the automatic update system.

That's right.
It's known that default kernel of OpenSUSE 11.1 has several problem, that's why at first I failed to install Nvidia driver for OpenSUSE.
This problem is refered in several site.
I could install Nvidia driver by updating kernel. Now I can obtain contour plots in VNL 2009.06.2.

Thanks for your help!
