I would suggest reading a textbook on Solid State Physics, e.g., by Neil W. Ashcroft, N. David Mermin https://books.google.dk/books/about/Solid_State_Physics.html?id=x_s_YAAACAAJ&redir_esc=y, to learn about the Fermi-Dirac distribution.
